December 16 , On this day in Elvis history


 

December 16, 1957
 The Memphis Draft Board announced that Elvis Presley would be receiving his draft notice soon.
AND
Elvis bought the Santa sleigh and 8 reindeer for $300 from Bain Sigh Company in Memphis. They are still displayed on the Graceland lawn every year.
AND
Elvis was always a man with the most generous heart, but also a man who did not forget who was there for him when he and his family were struggling to survive… Elvis was at the Goodfellows headquarters to present the Press-Scimitar Goodfellows with 100 brand new $10 bills. Elvis let it be known that the Goodfellows had played Santa Claus for him seven years earlier. "Our family had it pretty rough that year," he recalled. "The Goodfellows made my Christmas for me." And as it would seem, Elvis did not only have teenagers as fans! While he was there an unidentified woman approached Elvis with a request: "Elvis, please autograph my arm!" Elvis being the man he was, did so for her!
December 16, 1961
 Elvis's soundtrack to "Blue Hawaii" reached #1 on the album charts. It remained at #1 for 20 weeks.
December 16, 1967
Elvis and Priscilla returned to Memphis.
December 16, 1970
Elvis rented the projection room at MGM to screen That's The Way It Is.
December 16, 1973
Including all the recordings of the last couple of days, Elvis finished 18 masters. The songs reflected Elvis happier state of mind. For instance: I Got A Feeling In My Body, If You Talk In Your Sleep, Loving Arms, Talk About The Good Times and a rocking version of Promised Land.
AND
Elvis  recorded the song "Promised Land."

The reissue of "Elvis' 40 Greatest Hits" hit #40 in the U.K.

It was reproted the Lisa Marie Presley would keep Graceland but sell the bulk of the Elvis estate. The deal, worth approximately $100 million, included the rights to the Elvis Presley name and image. The agreement stated that Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc. woudl sell 85 percent of its assets to businessman Robert F.X. Sillerman. The new publicly traded name would be called CKX Inc. __
