OCTOBER 29, ON THIS DAY IN ELVIS HISTORY

October 29, 1954
Elvis, Scotty and Bill played The Eagle's Nest in Memphis, a nightclub over the changing room at the Clearpool complex. Oscar Davis, who was working at that time as the advance man for Colonel Parker, was attending the show.
October 29, 1955
Elvis performed at the Louisiana Hayride, Municipal Auditorium, Shreveport, while the Colonel drove to Memphis to talk with Sam Philips about an agreement. The price for purchasing Elvis' contract is set on $35,000, against a non-refundable deposit of $5,000 which the Colonel had to put down.
October 29, 1956
In an attempt to counter an "adverse public reaction," Twentieth Century-Fox shot an alternative ending to Love Me Tender in which Elvis' character, Clint Reno, is spared. For reasons known only to the producers, this second ending was rejected. A compromise ending was used instead. Clint is killed as called for in the original script, but the final shot superimposed a ghostly close-up of Elvis as Clint crooning "Love Me Tender" as his family slowly walks away from his grave. The fans were then left with a final image of Elvis doing what he was famous for -- singing.
There was filmed a new ending for Love Me Tender at the Junco Studio. The new scene had a ghostly image hovering over the mourners walking away from the grave. It almost seemed Elvis' hair was dyed black in this scene. While during the rest of the film his hair had its natural color.
October 29, 1957
Elvis performed a second night at the Pan Pacific Auditorium in Los Angeles. After the show Elvis met Ricky Nelson.
When Police showed up with movie cameras, the show was considerably toned down. Through hand gestures, Elvis repeatedly indicated to the audience that their censorious camera was on him. At one point, he thrust his hands straight out, wrists together, suggesting that his actions were hand cuffed. He even announced to the 9200 fans "You should have been here last night ".
