NOVEMBER 15, ON THIS DAY IN ELVIS HISTORY

November 15, 1955
Elvis performed at the Community Center, Shefflield, Alabama at 7.00 and 9.30 p.m.
Colonel Parker finally wears down RCA after a barrage of phone calls and telegrams. On the last day of the option Bill Bullock agreed to Sam Phillips' price of $35,000, an unheard-of amount, and Parker sends Phillips the $5,000 deposit via Special Delivery airmail. Several days later he receives a refund from RCA, but he will always point to the fact that it was his money that secured Presley's contract, his money that was at risk.
November 15, 1956
Elvis visited the late show of Liberace at the Clover Room of the Riviera Hotel. Afterwards he visited Liberace backstage and even fooled around for some photographers.
The film, Love Me Tender (formerly titled The Reno Brothers) opened in New York at the Paramount Theater. A huge cardboard cut-out sign was hung on the front of the Paramount Theater, and over 1,000 fans began lining up the night before to attend the film's premiere. The film was released nationally on November 21 and by then the title song, "Love Me Tender," was already a million seller. Not surprisingly, this first Elvis film also broke all movie attendance records in Memphis. In six weeks the movie would be second in ticket sales for 1956.
