Rock 'n' Roll King Given Plaque at City Hall.

One of Memphis´ most famous citizens Elvis Presley today presented a $55,000 Merry Christmas present to 58 Memphis charities.
He gave $500 to some, more to others.
The mayor´s office was overflowing with representatives of the organizations.
Elvis arrived shortly after 2 p.m.
Presley was then given a life-size plaque (six feet tall) from the organizations.
"Good grief," said Presley. "That's beautiful, but I may have to build a room just to keep it in."
Mayor-elect Ingram spoke next.
"I think the proper place to keep it would be in the Elvis Presley Coliseum."
Elvis presented the checks to the organizations, then signed autographs, many on the .... envelopes which contained the checks.
Presley was sharply dressed in a black continental suit and a black vest, black suede shoes, black tie and stick pin and a fancy gabardine coat with velvet collar.
Presley has been in Memphis about a week. He will be here thru Christmas and his birthday - Jan. 8, when he will be 29. He said he would return to Hollywood in February.
The Goodfellows and the Cynthia Milk Fund of the Press Scimitar were two of the organizations receiving gifts.
