Mid- November 1956

In Mid- November 1956, a junior high school student stole a cardboard figure of Elvis used to promote "Love Me Tender" at the Byrd Theater located at 2908 E. Carey Street in Richmond, Virginia. The student sent a note to the theater's manager that read, "I am a junior high school student with no money and my girl is crazy about Elvis Presley. I will return the figure if you will give me two tickets to see the picture. Please answer in the classified section of the newspaper" The manager's reply read, "Attention junior high school student: Please come to the theater for your two free tickets compliments of the Byrd Theater. Please bring the figure." The boy called his girlfriend with the surprise news that they were going to see Elvis's new movie.
