Somewhere during this period before Christmas Elvis made his first appearance in Gladewater, Texas. There was a show in the Mint Club, by Tom Perryman, a local DJ, who would book Elvis continually in the area around Texas, even during the next year.

Elvis and director Hal Kanter drove to Shreveport with Bitsy Mott, Gene and Junior Smith. They had dinner at the Trio Restaurant in Pine Bluff, Arkansas with Jim Ed and Maxine Brown. They left after midnight and arrived in Shreveport early in the morning where they checked into the Captain Shreve Hotel.
