Insiders Artifact: 1957 Graceland Decorating Invoice
March 30, 2012Elvis and his family made Graceland their home in March of 1957 after the landmark year that launched his iconic career. Elvis bought the 14-acre property for $102,500 and had his parents pick out furnishings for the mansion while he continued to tour. The Presley family purchased several items from the Memphis-based Golden's including furniture, paintings, and record players. The house was ready for them to move in on May 16th, 1957 but Elvis did not actually spend his first night at Graceland until June 26th, 1957. This week's Insiders artifact includes an invoice from several of their purchases at Golden's furniture store.
Each week, a rare or never-before-seen photo or document from the Graceland archives is added to the Elvis Insiders artifacts gallery. This gallery is exclusive to Elvis Insiders Basic and Plus members. Not an Elvis Insider? Learn more about becoming one!
